Lineup and Details for Funzing Talks: Why Do Serial Killers Kill?

Funzing Talks

What Psychological differences are there between a murderer and a normal person? Are Serial Killers made or born that way? Ultimately, what drives people to kill? Join Dr David Holmes for a probing, fascinating talk - where we explore exactly what makes a serial killer tick.

The majority of murders and homicides involve family and close friends. There can be strong feelings and tensions in close relations that lead to assaults and murder. The killing of strangers by someone less connected may indicate there is a Serial Killer at large with less obvious reasons to kill. In this talk we look at what makes a Serial Killer and why they may kill another person with less concern than we may have in cutting grass.

I will examine what makes a Serial Killer different from the vast majority of us. We have all heard TV broadcasts where the neighbours of a killer state, ‘He was just an ordinary bloke, I cannot believe he did this’. This begs the question as to how well we really know our neighbours or anyone in fact. The differences that would identify a potential Serial Killer are not stamped on their foreheads but still mark them out as being almost alien in comparison to ourselves. What this difference is that makes them so mortally dangerous needs to be understood by everyone who wants to live out their days peacefully and naturally.
